Introductory Catalan Course for Beginners

  • Does my university offer Catalan courses before getting to the University of Lleida?
    • There are some universities that do offer them. Check this information here.
  • What introductory Catalan courses does the UdL offer?
    • The UdL offers an intensive course before the beginning of every semester and an extensive one during every semester.
  • Who are they for?
    • Both for university members of the university community and people outside the UdL.
    • People who have just arrived at the UdL are strongly recommended to do so.

Intensive Catalan Course for Beginners

 

  • When is it?
    • From the 28th August to the 10th September of 2024 (1st semester) and from the 20th to the 31st January 2024 (2nd semester).
  • How long is it?
    • It’s 35 hours.
  • How can I enrol?
    • Using the links you will find on the webpages in Spanish and in English for those newly arrived.

  • When can I enrol?
    • Until the 31st July 2024 (1st semester)
    • Until the 13th January 2025 (2nd semester).
  • How much is the course?
    • €11.55 for UdL students.
    • If you are a mobility student, check the prices on the corresponding webpage.
  • How and when do I have to pay?
    • The payment can be made by credit card or at the indicated ATMs until the date set by the Language Institute Secretary.
  • How many credits does it equate to? What workload does it involve?
    • 2.5 ECTS credits but only for mobility students (from outside Spain).
    • You should attend 80% of the classes and pass the final exam.
  • If I arrive once the course has started, can I join?
    • If you have registered and paid correctly, you can join the course no later than 30 August at 9 am (1st semester)
    • If you have registered and paid correctly, you can join the course no later than 22 January at 9 am (2nd semester).
  • When I finish the Catalan course for beginners (A1), will I be able to continue to the next level?
    • The Language Institute offers an A2 Catalan course every semester.



 

 

Welcome Weeks

 

  • What are the welcome weeks?
    • The International Relations Office and the Language Institute organise a range of activities for mobility students when they have just arrived: a short introductory Catalan course for beginners, visits to some city landmarks, a gymkhana to know the city, ...
  • When do these activities take place?
    • Two weeks before every semester begins.
  • Who are they for?
    • Particularly mobility students who have just arrived at the UdL.
  • Can students from Spain and who have come to the UdL for the first time participate?
    • Yes, they are strongly recommended to do so.
  • Can students who are not taking the Catalan course take part in the welcome weeks’ activities?
    • Yes, no problem.
  • Do you have to register anywhere for these activities?
    • You don’t need to. You should only turn up where and when the activity starts.

Language Volunteering

  • What is Language Volunteering?
    • Language Volunteering is made up of members of the university community, mostly students, who want to help newcomers to integrate better into the university and the city and that to understand them the Catalan language and culture.

Throughout the year language volunteers have the possibility to join entertaining cultural activities:

  • to learn about the Catalan language and culture as well as its cultural traditions
  • excursions and trips to get to know the area

  • Who can join language volunteering?
    • Non-Catalan speakers (students, academic staff, administrative and service staff) who have just arrived at the UdL.
  • How can I ask for the help of a language volunteer?

Spanish Courses

  • What Spanish courses does the UdL offer?
    • It offers levels A1, A2, B1 and B2.
  • Who are they for?
    • Both for university members and people outside the UdL.
  • How long are they?
    • Levels A1 and A2: 50 hours.
    • Levels B1 and B2: 70 hours.
  • When do they take place?
    • Courses are available every semester.
    • In the first semester, they begin in October and in the second, in February.
  • How can I enrol?
