The UdL, fifth Spanish university in research quality
 
. According to the SCImago Institutions Ranking, it is among the five Spanish universities with the highest scientific impact

La Recerca a la Universitat de Lleida
The University of Lleida is the fifth Spanish university in the scientific impact of its publications. According to the newspaper El País, the SCImago Institutions Ranking (SIR) places the UdL fifth in citation of articles written by its researchers. The index, which is weighted according to the number of publications and researchers, gave the UdL a rating of 1.35. The world ranking is led by the Rockefeller University in the USA, with a score of 2.44. In Spain the leader is the Pompeu Fabra University, with a score of 1.56. It is followed by the University of Barcelona, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Rovira i Virgili University.

The SIR, which analyzed the scientific publications of the 2,789 most important research institutions in the world (universities, foundations, hospitals and research centres), placed the UdL in first place in the national ranking for publications related to life sciences (biology, zoology, etc.), with a score of 1.49. It is followed by the Pompeu Fabra University, with 1.4, the Jaume I University in Castelló, the University of Castilla-La Mancha and the Technical University of Cartagena. In this field, the UdL occupies the 390th place in the world, whereas the second in the ranking, the Pompeu Fabra University, ocupies the 520th place.
