The University of Lleida intends to start up a master’s degree course in teaching Spanish and Catalan to immigrants in the 2011-2012 academic year. This is set out in a collaboration agreement between the University of Lleida and the Tianjin Foreign Studies University that was signed last Saturday. The three-year agreement establishes a joint programme to train Chinese students in Spanish language and culture, as well as teaching UdL students Chinese. In addition, each year one student on this new UdL master’s degree will be able to attend practical sessions at the Binhai School, which is attached to the University of Tianjin

The rector of the UdL, Joan Viñas, and the rector of Tianjin, Xiu Gang, signed an extension to the framework agreement entered into in 2005 and a specific collaboration agreement to promote the exchange of teaching staff and students. This second agreement provides for the training of Chinese students at the University of Lleida to obtain the Certificate in Hispanic Studies, which was first introduced in the 2006-2007 academic year and is being followed by seven students from Tianjin this year.
